My family immigrated to Australia in the 1920's from Pieve di Bono. I have seen your website and found it really fascinating. It is obvious that a lot of time and effort went into making it as good as it is. It is great for me to see that traditions have been maintained throughout the years. Allan Battaia, from Australia --- battaia_family@hotmail.com My father's people came from the neighboring towns of Daiano and San Lugano, his dad Tito Dioda in 1911 and mom Alice Lazzeri in 1914. Olivia Fox --- oddfox1@juno.com I have just discovered your site tonight and was pleased to find reference to maiden name, de Manincor. I'm excited about the possibilities of using your site. If any readers have any information on the de Manincors from the Trentino region, please send an e-mail. Denise de Manincor Dodson (Houston, TX) --- ddedodson@aol.com What a fantastic website! Most of my family is in Taio. Reading everyone's messages brings my mind to the glorious Val di Non. My father was born in Taio and emigrated to the U.S. in the 1950's, leaving everyone else behind. Lucky me, as they are all still there! I welcome any messages from those familiar with the surnames CESCATTI, ZADRA, INAMA, or LARCHER. Michelle Cescatti (Los Angeles, CA) --- micescatti@aol.com The grandfather of my first husband was Giovanni Flaim and he married Anna Weissensteiner. My father in law was Siegfried Flaim and he married in Bolzano to Rosa Auer. Renate Fick (Stade, Germany) --- renate.stade@t-online.de This is an unbelievable site. I am thrilled to find that other people are looking for Zini's and Job's. My sister first found this site and told me about it. She lives in WI. where we were born and raised. My father was Anselmo Zini from Lover, Italy. Marie Zini Mattie (Port Charlotte, FL) --- lmmattie@aol.com Enjoyed your Yob family web site. I have been looking for information on Zini in Segundo, CO. where my grandfather was a coal miner around 1904, but I don't see any Zini's. His wife was Anunziata (Nancy) Yob. They were from the village of Lover (Val di Non). My dad's name was Enselmo Zini. Carol Zini Tiedeman (Waunakee, WI) --- marktied@aol.com My brother and I were discussing the family name (Yob or Yobb), when I decided to see if my "verbal history" of the Tyrol was correct. I came across this site and have been astounded. We know we have family born in the United States in the late 1800's, but have nothing to indicate where their parents were born. When we get more information, rest assure this site will be our starting place. Thank you for your time and effort. Dennis Yob --- dennisyob@comcast.net I live a block from the Dickinson County Courthouse in Iron Mountain, MI. Many Trentini came here to work in the mines, some only a short while and some came to stay. Would be happy to do lookups at the courthouse, no charge for my time. Death records are in big books which are indexed, but no certificates available, only what a person can transcribe from the ledgers. The books are indexed and cover several years each, so it wouldn't be too much trouble to look for an approximate date. Birth and marriage records have a fee for a certified copy; no photocopies allowed; and you have to supply the exact date and reason for wanting the information (family history or genealogy is acceptable). Email me privately if you would like me to do a search. Ruth Greer (Iron Mountain, MI) --- argie498@hotmail.com Hi Sal. Just checking back to see what's new. I find this site so interesting and have met up with quite a few relatives thanks to the site. Still looking for more info on Rizzardi, Sicher, Mascotti from Coredo. Connie Rizzardi (Minersville, PA) --- onaz@ptd.net I am currently working on my ancestry from the Trentino region. My grandfather was born in Sover, his name was Emilio Casagranda, son of Nicolo and Lucia(Andreatta) Casagranda. Siblings included 2 sisters (Domenica Casagranda Conti and Julia Casagranda Todeschi), and brothers Silvio, Umberto, Nicolo, and a brother still living in Youngstown, Ohio, Victor. My great grandfather supposedly emigrated back and forth between Italy and the Colorado mining camps in the early 1900s, while his wife stayed behnd in Sover. He was also drafted into the German army during WW1. Please contact if you can help add to this history. Tina Boyle (Virginia) --- hannah1454@cs.com I've noticed that the Bertagnoli site updates have been slower and with fewer additions from month to month. I think the work is very important and would like to see it completed. One of the worst things that can happen to a genealogist is to search an incomplete database. This is because if he/she doesn't find what she/he expects, he/she must go back to the original and search the whole thing from scratch. I have complete empathy with the family who is doing the work. It is a huge, time consuming task. I've started big projects before and found myself in their situation when the enormity of the whole thing finally sets in. I was wondering if there was something we could do to re-energize their efforts. For instance I would gladly contribute to a fund that would compensate them. Perhaps if enough others who visit your site would do the same -- it could be helpful to them. Gene Pancheri --- ginopan@hotmail.com My mother and father came from Val di Non. My father Emilio arrived at Ellis Island 1913 worked in the coal mines in Ohio, was killed 1940 in an explosion. Jimmy Dalpiaz (Lafferty, OH) --- jimnjan@sunline.net Hi there... really great and informative web site. Am researching my family lines.... who came to the US to work in the silver mines in Colorado. Would love to hear from anyone who has any information on these surnames Nardin (Segonzano), Giacomozzi, Rossi. Kent (Sacramento, CA) --- kennyg4626@aol.com My Grandmother Vittorina Gosetti was from Montes in the Val di Non. She married my Grandfather Marco Quaresima from Tuenno and came to America. My cousin Mark has located one cousin in Italy and I am anxious to find any other relatives. I belong to the Tyrolesi Trentino Club in Denver. Alice Hinckley (Centennial, CO) --- alicehinckley@yahoo.com I know that my Grandfather came from the Tyrol or Tentino area. His name was Emil Lorengo born 1/27/1897. Would like to hear from anyone researching these lines Loretta Perner (Spring Hill, FL) --- lperner@tampabay.rr.com Dear Sal: I have been in touch once before, but it was a long time ago. We continue to attempt to trace de Manincor families world wide, and note with interest a connection with the Pilati family. A further connection in more recent times is that the sister of my mother-in-law (Carolina [Facchini] de Manincor) who was Pacifica Facchini married a Pilati. They migrated to Australia and there is a large branch of the Pilati family here. I have not attempted to do any research on that line, but am desperate to find more information on de Manincor's from Trentino. Your Guestbook is very helpful and I'm hoping that through it, someone may be able to assist us. George & Margaret deManincor (Australia) --- magdem@hotmail.com My name is Emma Battisto. My parents were Ernest Canestrini from Cloz and My mother was Edith Zuech (Zueck) of Brez. I am always interested to hear stories from Cloz or anything on my parents Emma Canestrini Battisto --- ebattisto@yahoo.com You have done a remarkable job of chronicaling our heritage. My primary surnames are Corazza (Brez), Casari (Smarano), and Wegher (Tuenno). I live in CO but am a WY native. In your documentation of the emigration to WY, you have overlooked a significant region--Cambria, Weston County, WY. This was a very productive mining town from 1887-1928. My own families began in WY there. At one time, there were about 2000 people living there and it boasted an opera house. When the mines closed, most then went down to Superior, WY Clint Black (Castle Rock, CO) --- cjoblack@aol.com Hi Sal! Well I am back. I am working on the Gasperetti, Yob, part of my family. Gasperetti, from Spormaggiore, Yob, from Sporminnore. I grew up in Loretto, Michigan, 5 miles from Norway, and Vulcan. A lot of these names on your website, are names that still live in Norway, Loretto, and Iron Mountian, Michigan. My Grandfather was Joseph Gasperetti, who married Teresa Yob, in Sporminore. Lucy Krajna (Milwaukee, WI) --- lkrajn@ci.mil.wi.us This looks very good. It seems that you are getting some good feedback. For general information, I was born and raised in southern Colorado, in the Trinidad - Walsenburg area. My grandparents came from the Val de Non area. My family line include Pilati, Bonadiman, Dalpiaz, Parolini, Vielmetti, Martinelli, Bonvicini, Menapace, Vitti, Maistrelli, Clauser and others. Ted Rousses (Denver, CO) --- rousses@prodigy.net |
