Thanks for the great website. My great grandfather Romedio Bertolas & great grandmother Anna Yob came from the region. Growing up in Milwaukee my grandfather Rudy Bertolas used to serve up Trentino Sausage w/sauerkraut & polenta. The old butcher who made these great sausages has sinced passed away, leaving no recipe. Where can I find such a recipe?

My husband and I went to northern Italy in October to trace my ancestors. Found the villages outside of Trento where my grandparents came from. My nona(Lucia Ambrosi) came from Piazze de Pine. My grandfather(Battista Andreatta) came from Casei. We met ancestors and we were able to go into the houses where my grandparents grew up. We came home with more questions than answers since they speak Italian and little English. We speak English but little Italian. We can not wait to go back. What a beautiful area!

I just found your web-site and am so excited! My maternal grandparents emigrated from the Trento area in 1921. Nono's name was Virgilio Molignoni, Nona's Amelia Gentilini/Gentilinni. I'm not sure of the correct spelling for the later. Nono's brother came first and settled in Weston, PA. My grandparents followed.  My Nono moved to Tamaqua, PA where he worked for Eames bakery.  If there are any Molignoni's or Gentilini's out there, please send me a message.  Thank you for a great site & for the opportunity to learn about and to meet others from that beautiful place.

I was born in Italy and my father was born in Sfruz. He is the son of Vigilio Ossanna and Lina Biasi. The father of Vigilio - Francesco - temporaily emigrated to USA and worked in mines in PA during the period 1920-1930. He actually travelled to the USA a couple of times but he eventually always came back to Sfruz. My grandmother Lina passed away a couple of years ago at the age of 93 - she had relatives in Brooklyn but she had lost contact with them many years before.  I was very happy to have found this site that collects many information about Val di Non and their emigrants.

My maiden name is Cologna and my great grandfather was born in Castelfondo, Italy. His name was Giovanni Baptista Cologna. He migrated to Vulcan Michigan late in the nineteenth century.  My brother discovered that my ancestors may have migrated to Italy from the Rhineland sometime before the 18th century.  My investigation led me to the Rhineland massacre of the Jews and I wondered - can we be conversos (my family is Catholic now)? Further research led me to the Rabbi Abraham de Cologna and how Jewish surnames were attached by a person's place of origin - Cologne, Germany.

One of our cousins has been translating the church records from Smarano. She has found our great (6 generations) back was Jacobi Antonis Recla. This is my Mom's side of the family. Her Grandfather came to the U.S. in 1891 from Smarano. He  eventually ended up in Iron Mountain Michigan where a number of Recla families where already living. At some point he and his wife Louise Chiesa moved to Alpha MI. Other names I am looking for are Swarz,Poli,Graif Cagliari. The name Graif is from Luigi Graif and Luigia "Cagliari" Graif from Romeno. These last two names would be my Great,Great Grandparents

I just returned from a visit to Revo. It is the village from where my paternal grandparents came.  I did not know if we had any relatives left there but once I found out my Martini and Rossi sopramomi I managed to find a first cousin to my father. The Martini name is Pio Lao or Lau and the Rossi name is Perla. S Thanks to this site and connecting with others whose family came from Revo, I was able to find information. I just hope that I can someday return to this little village where the Martini family lived beginning in the 1400's.
