MY ANCESTRAL LINES

The genealogical charts on the following pages represent my ancestral ties to Trentino and Sicily, and include:

Surnames:
In Trentino --- Banaletti, Bartolotti, Chini, Dalpiaz, Dalri, Giovannini,  Iob (Yob), Moser,   Pancheri, Pilati,  Pollo, Villot,  Romano, Sartor, Tomasi, Varesco,  Ventura,  Varesco, Zanon

In Sicily --- Romano, Ritondo, Ciotta

Villages:
In Trentino --- Bresimo, Bronzollo, Carano, Castello di Fiumme, Cunevo, Flavon, Nanno, Samoclevo, Segno, Stramentizzi,   Predaia, Rallo, Tassullo, Ziano

In Sicily --- Spadafora, Xitta

My research has discovered many noteworthy events, including:

Museum in SegnoA distant link to Fr. Eusebio CHINI (Padre Kino),  a famous 17th century explorer of the American southwest and Mexico.  A statue commemorating his exploits sits in the US Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.   In 1938, a genealogical history of the CHINI family from the village of Segno was written [Memorie e Genealogia dei Chini di Segno, by Marco Benedetto Chini].  Information from this book enabled the extension of my CHINI lines to the year 1399.

Direct links to the PANCHERI families of Samoclevo and Bresimo. During the 16th and 17th centuries, members of this PANCHERI line were "captains" (overseers who controlled and generally managed a castle for the noble owners) of Castel Altaguardia.  The PANCHERI's lived and worked at the castle for generations, until it was substantially destroyed in a fire in 1639. Many thanks to Gene PANCHERI who of was immense assistance in providing information to me.

My Grandparents -- the original emigrants

Roberto Giuseppe IOB
, (1879 - 1942 in Cunevo).  Emigrated to the US on 26 Mar 1905 aboard the S.S. Philadelphia sailing from Cherbourg, France. Had $10 and a ticket to Trinidad, Colorado to join his brother Francesco. On 3 July 1907, soon after his brother Francesco's 1906 death in a mine explosion, Roberto married Francesco's widow (Maria Banaletti). Roberto was employed as a coal miner (apparently with the Victor Fuel Company's Hastings mine). Roberto and Maria returned to Cunevo sometime between 1911 and 1914.
