Trentino Genealogy, Culture, and Heritage

My introduction to Trentino began with stories told to me as a child about a valley in northern Italy (that was once part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire) surrounded by mountains, castles, and lakes. These stories fueled a desire to learn more about the area -- its people, its culture, its history. A natural progression was to undertake the task of tracing my ancestral ties to Trentino and learning a little of family history.

Within this site you will find information and links to help you in learning more about your family history and your heritage - from information about ancestral villages to information about actual people who made the voyages to what they hoped would be a land of opportunity.

Soon to follow will be information about obtaining Italian citizenship -- the process, requirements, documents needed and how to obtain them.

IMPORTANT NEW RESOURCE

The Trentino Department of Emigration has placed a database of birth records online.  The database contains information about 1.2 million residents of Trentino born between the years 1815-1923.  More information here.
